Welcome to Shemariah Vizsla,
Currently the home of three classy bitches, (soon to be four), nestled in the beautiful valley of Galatea, flanked by Te Urewera on one side and The Kaiangaroa pine forest, the other.
We run a family operated dairy farm complete with Vizslas.......... Yet to market Vizsla milk!
Our first Vizsla was Essential Gold of Hi Viz (Taz) who came from a litter in Matata that has spread the length of the country and gone on to become a HUGE influence in the hunting fraternity country wide. Taz was born in 2004 and since then we have been well and truly vizsla infected.
Whilst we breed mainly for hunting, I am in no way prepared to compromise breed standards with our mating. Hence I have tried to breed correctively to enhance the dogs we have, whilst not losing the hunt drive we have obtained. We tend to have a litter every 18 months and really only breed if we want a dog ourselves or have an order.
Please spend some time checking out our site and we hope you too will be Vizsla infected after your perusal.
If we do not have a current litter you may still wish to contact us as I often know of another litter around the country.

About Hungarian Vizsla
Taz; Essential Gold of Hiviz
|
This regal, russet colored breed has been around for centuries. It is speculated that Vizsla were commonly used as companions among the Maygar tribes who settled in Hungary, somewhere around the 9th Century.
Commonly referred to as the "fur and feather" dog, Vizsla is a highly versatile hunting companion. Their common hunting characteristic is hunt-point-retrieval both for birds and game such as deer. They have a very sleek and quiet way about them when hunting and will not chase game, that is not the type of breed they are. |
Is a vizsla right for me?
The Vizsla makes a fantastic pet, hunting companion and friend. However, there are several things to be aware of when thinking about adding a Vizsla to your family.
Vizslas are highly energetic and need a large amount of exercise. They are not an ideal choice of dog for town unless they are exercised - usually requiring much more than a walk. Without regular exercise they can become frustrated and form bad habits such as digging, barking or chewing.
This is also a result of being left alone. Vizsla do not like to be alone for extended periods of, e.g locked up all day with no one home. They are often referred to as "Velcro dogs" as they so desperately want owner attention and affection. They like to be in your space and a part of your daily living, which doesn't suit some people.
Vizsla also need to know their boundaries, but are highly sensitive. For example, a Vizsla will not respond well to a harsh telling off, whereas his friend the GSP will hardly bat an eyelid.
If treated right the Vizsla will be your greatest ally, he will desire to please you, which makes them easy to train, and will become an excellent friend. Vizsla can be sitting on the couch in a relaxed, sleepy manner, but the moment the gun comes out he will be up and ready to hunt in the field, he knows its game time!
